It should be noted that dragons favor candidates who are the same gender as them, but this is not an absolute. It is most common to see cross-gender Impressions with the smaller colors, but female brownriders have happened, and there is the possiblity of a female bronzerider or male purplerider or even goldrider in the future, should the right candidate come along. A candidate's sexuality has no effect on what color they Impress.
Keep in mind the personalities are largely based on stereotypes; most dragons will loosely follow the list, but exceptions are always possible. It is believed any female can lay any color, though a gold egg has yet to appear in any purple or red clutch.
Color: Gold

Personality Traits: Leaders of the Weyr, able to command other dragons. Dominant and possessive personalities, strong maternal instinct
Rarity: 1% of the population or less, rarer during intervals

Personality Traits: Natural leaders, tend to choose the same in riders. Often lead the wings, also dominant

Clutches/Chases: Chases golds, purples, reds, sometimes greens; Chases at 1 turn
Color: Brown
Gender: Male
Size: 32-38 feet
Personality Traits: Calm and levelheaded, can lead or follow
Rarity: 10% of eggs
Clutches/Chases: Chases purples, reds, greens, sometimes golds; Chases at 1 turn
Color: Blue
Gender: Male
Size: 24-31 feet
Personality Traits: Well-rounded, empathetic towards potential candidates, usually good-natured
Rarity: 15% of eggs
Clutches/Chases: Catches reds, greens, sometimes purples; Chases at 1 turn
Color: Green
Gender: Female
Size: 20-26 feet
Personality Traits: Outgoing, flirty, empathetic towards potential candidates
Rarity: 30% of eggs
Clutches/Chases: Caught by browns, blues, blacks, sometimes bronzes; First rises at 1 turn of age
The three new colors are unique in several ways. They all appeared in a queen's clutch 25 turns ago and have spread through her descendants. Curiously, each of the mutates described themselves with an alien word after hatching, but humans have taken to referring to them by their base color instead. Some are more willing to accept this than others. Also strange is the fact that riders of mutates are not affected by their dragons' mating. They are still able to sense the dragon during flights, but the feelings are 'muted' and easily ignored. This sometimes causes panic among young pairs, but weyrlingmasters now explain it as a standard part of training.
"Skireh"
Color: Purple
Gender: Female
Size: 33-39 feet
Personality Traits: Cannot command other dragons, but still have a lessened instinct to lead others; they can also follow orders and make good lieutenants
Rarity: 4-5% of eggs
Clutches/Chases: Caught by bronzes, browns, sometimes blues; 8-18 eggs, can chew firestone and clutch; duds are common; First rises at 2 turns of age
Notes: Skireh dragons, normally called purples, sometimes function as junior queens in other Weyrs and Weyrholds, but they are restricted to the regular wings at Quindell. They are typically wingseconds, though becoming a wingleader is possible.
"Cichar"
Color: Red
Gender: Female
Size: 25-33 feet
Personality Traits: Good endurance, but don't typically have the temperament to command; sweet and friendly, but poor maternal instincts
Rarity: 15% of eggs
Clutches/Chases: Caught by bronzes, browns, blues, blacks; 2-7 eggs, can chew firestone and clutch; duds are very common, not all clutches will have viable eggs; First rises at 1 turn of age
Notes: Cichar dragons are typically called reds, and they are the bane of the Weyr. The majority of any clutch will be duds, but there are enough of them and they clutch often enough that the Hatching Sands are nearly always occupied. They attract more than their fair share of scorn from other riders.
"Tirchid"
Color: Black
Gender: Male
Size: 18-24 feet
Personality Traits: Very small and fast, clever and introverted
Rarity: 20% of eggs
Clutches/Chases: Catches reds and greens; Chases at 1 turn
Notes: Tirchids are notably slimmer and longer-limbed than other dragons, as well as being small and fast. Since they do best on their own anyway, many end up becoming loners, dragons unaffiliated with a Weyr.
What about whites? Well...
Color: White
Gender: Asexual; Typically identifies as the same gender as their rider
Size: 16-21 feet
Personality Traits: Very rare and mysterious, not much is known
Rarity: Less than 1% of the population; there are none on Pern at this time and may never appear
Clutches/Chases: Does not rise or chase
Notes: The number of whites that have successfully hatched since Ruth can be counted on one hand, and there are none alive at the present time. This could change in the future, but don't expect it to.
